Choosing Accommodation for the Night Before Your Race

Lowveld Mountain Biking

Nelspruit plays host to many sporting events throughout the year, ranging from golf tournaments, mountain bike races, trail running events, marathons and many more. Thanks to our excellent climate and beautiful natural surroundings, the Lowveld is one of the most popular outdoor sports destinations in South Africa.

If you have ever taken part in a sporting event, you would know that there are a few things to be in place in order for you to bring you’re A-game on race day. Especially so when you are travelling to participate in a different city, province or country.

When you’ve trained hard and put in months of preparation to get yourself physically and mentally fit, you need to make sure your accommodation for the night before doesn’t spoil your entire race. Too often, when looking for accommodation, people opt for the first place they can find. The truth is, you don’t just need a “place to sleep”, you need a peaceful sanctuary with all the comfort you need so you wake up feeling fresh and ready for the win.

Here are a few things to look for when booking accommodation:

A Good Night’s Rest

Although this may seem like an obvious one, people too often overlook the importance of a good comfy night’s sleep on a quality bed with soft, luxurious linen. Also, try to choose a guest house with air conditioning in your room so you can set the temperature to your liking.

Quiet, Peaceful Surroundings

You might already be experiencing a little pre-race day jitters, which is totally normal. The last thing you need the night before your race are busy streets and traffic noises. You won’t go wrong with choosing a guest house in a quiet part of town with beautiful gardens and a swimming pool to relax in.

A Yummy, Nutritious Breakfast.

Some athletes believe in carbo-loading, others want lots of protein to feel strong and some just want a light snack to start their race-day. No matter you preference, we have delicious breakfast options for your taste.

Safe Parking and a Place to Keep Your Equipment.

Safe, off street parking for your car will keep your mind at ease while you are getting valuable hours of shut-eye. If you are travelling with sporting equipment like golf clubs, mountain bikes etc. make sure your guest house has a safe place indoors to store it.

Location.

Choose accommodation that is centrally located and close to the starting point of your race. Staying too far out of town could cause a unnecessary rush to get to where you need to be. Anything could come up the morning of your race; unexpected traffic, limited parking etc. so it’s best to find accommodation nearby to ensure you get to the starting line bright and early.

Wake up calls.

Even though you will probably be setting a few alarms on your phone to make sure you don’t oversleep, it is always a good idea to ask your guest house for a wake up call if they offer this service.
