Being located in Mbombela (Nelspruit), we are very lucky to be surrounded by breathtaking scenic spots all around us. It truly is a nature lover’s dream.
The Loerie Trail day hike is one of the walking trails in the area that we like to recommend to our guests who are looking for adventure and beautiful scenic views. It’s less than an hour’s drive from our guest house and will guarantee a memorable trip to the countryside.
This popular circular trail is 14km in distance, the route will take you 4 ½ – 6 hours to complete. Hikers can start from either the Ceylon Forest Station in Sabie or the Castle Rock Caravan Park.
The trail leads through the Sabie Forest Valley and leads through the indigenous forest, grasslands and pine and eucalyptus plantations, and includes a few waterfalls along the way. Remember to pack a swimming costume if you’re up for a dip in the cool forest pools.
Expect to see rare wildflowers and perhaps even the green Knysna Loerie, while you enjoy glorious views of the valley and Lowveld countryside.
